GARDEN CLUB TALKS

Many short talks to garden clubs and civic organizations have been given on subjects such as:

 

Public Landscaping This slide show reviews the planning process, soil preparation, proper planting, and maintenance tips. Traffic islands are used as illustrations.

 

Perennials, Trees, and Shrubs for the City Photos and descriptions of favorite low maintenance plants that tolerate urban soils while providing a long blooming period and year round garden interest.

 

Companion Plants to Hosta Photos and descriptions about how to enhance a garden of Americas most favorite perennial.

 

Your Garden in Winter The slide show begins by illustrating the importance of good design, followed by selection of plants that have winter interest. Show ends with slides that show you how to appreciate the garden in winter.

 

Plant Combinations Photos using plants together in pleasing combinations. Talk also covers the use of color, texture, form and a mix of greens.

 

Low Maintenance Plants Focus is on photos and descriptions of annuals, perennials, bulbs, vines, and ground covers.

 

Low Maintenance Trees & Shrubs Focus is on photos and descriptions of trees and shrubs. These plants also provide year round interest and have a long bloom period.

 

Maintenance Tips & Shortcuts Slides will illustrate planting tips, design, mulching and watering plus other tips to save money.

 

Traffic Island/Municipal Open Space Design Slides show the features of a plan, how to prepare a plan, how to add maintenance considerations to the plan, and some typical examples.

 

Lawns & Gardens without Chemicals Follow lawn construction and maintenance steps to build a low care lawn. Second part of the program focuses on a low maintenance garden design and plants that do not need chemicals.

 

Hostas and Daylilies These most popular perennials are highlighted with slides of a hundred different cultivars of sun loving Daylilies and shade loving Hostas.

 

Ferns and Ornamental Grasses These most popular perennials are highlighted with slides of a ten cultivars of sun loving grasses and ten cultivars of shade loving ferns.

 

Municipal Tree Planting Program This innovative program illustrates how to plant a street tree for ¼ the cost of a conventional street tree planting.

 

Residential Landscape Design This slide show provides case studies to illustrate elaborate gardens, collections, and simple designs, as well as how to design a garden for year round interest.

 

Arbor Day Ceremonies This program sets up an Arbor Day Ceremony in your community and Leonard Phillips serves as the Master of Ceremonies.

 

Champion Trees in Wellesley, Tours of Wellesley Parks and Landscapes These are two tours that look at Wellesley's scenic beauty.
